Part-time Teacher, Part-time Stay at Home Mom
It's one o'clock in the afternoon--LJ is napping, I'm in my yoga pants and Rachael Ray is whipping up some goodie for her Mini Muffin Tin Week. And did I mention that I've already worked out and taught four sections of high school English? Hi. Welcome to my new life. And I love it.
It's a story much too long to rehash here, but the ultimate result is that I decided to be a part-time teacher and part-time stay-at-home mom for this school year. It was a hard and easy decision. It was hard because I have worked my you-know-what off for the last ten years carefully crafting a career I am successful at and very proud of. I find that only other teachers understand the personal pride in calling oneself a teacher. It was an easy decision because I know it was right for my family.
The week that everything came to a climax, I swear, this song by Philip Phillips was on the radio every time I was in the car. Normally, that would annoy me, but this particular week, I needed to hear the same song--this song--over and over again. It was the lines, "settle down, it'll all be clear. Don't pay no mind to the demons they fill you with fear" that really got to me.
So I'm holding on as this new school year starts--this pretty unfamiliar road for me-- and loving every new pit stop, stoplight, yield sign and green light.
Home by Phillip Phillips
Hold on, to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave is stringing us along
Just know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your home
Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found
Just know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your home
Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found
Just know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your home
