I'm Proud of You

This past weekend, JLO and I were able to spend some quality time with his family in Wisconsin. We saw many of his family members, including meeting our newest little nephew, and especially enjoyed seeing his Grandma. She is a beautiful, well-respected, and caring woman. I've only known her for seven years, but like the rest of the family I've come to really adore her. As we gave out hugs and said our good-byes on Sunday, she said to both of us, "I'm so proud of you for having a baby." At first, I thought it was a funny remark to say. Maybe she meant "happy" or "excited"? But the more I think about it, I know she meant proud. Because as someone who has three children, nine grandchildren, and soon-to-be ten great-grandchildren, she knows that becoming a parent is a major life change and decision. She knows that life as parents will bring us challenges and rewards, lowlights and highlights, failures and successes.

So when the excitement and happiness turn into challenges and failures, I will fondly remember her very wise words, "I'm so proud of you." Words that mean so much coming from such a wonderful person.
